Alhaji Wahab Iyanda Folawiyo, the Baba Adini of Nigeria, is a business magnate who owns The Yinka Folawiyo Group of Companies, which is involved in international trade and shipping and has assets in excess of N400m. Alhaji Folawiyo was born in 1928 in Lagos and was educated at Olowogbowo Methodist School, Lagos and Ilesa Grammar School before becoming a management trainee with UAC in 1947-49. He joined Socony Vacom Oil (now Mobil Oil) setting up his own import and export company in 1957. In 1958, Alhaji Folawiyo visited Eastern Europe and was the first Nigerian to develop strong trading ties with the Eastern Bloc. Sugar and Cement were imported from the former USSR. Trade links were extended to Bulgaria and Romania and goods imported included bagged cement, fertilizers, and food items. A company was formed in 1967 to charter ships and it became acarrier of cocoa, palm kernels, and groundnuts for the Nigerian Produce Marketing Company.

In 1972 a shipping company, Nigerian Green Line, was founded and in 1975, a regular liner service between Europe and Nigeria was inaugurated. An agency based in London was opened in 1975 for purchasing, chartering, and ship management and Alhaji Folawiyo became a member of the Baltic Exchange. Overseas investment includes the West Afrika Holland Trading Company of Antwerp founded in 1973, and Allied Bank in London in 1977. The Group also diversified into property in 1971, and construction in 1977.

An integrated poultry complex costing N50m was established at Ilora, Oyo State, and another unit at Lekki peninsula. A fishing company was started in 1990 and a merchant bank, Marina International Bank, was launched in the same year.

The Group of Companies remains a family business closely controlled by the founder. Ahmed Folawiyo who is in his late 30s is the heir apparent to an enormous business empire. He is on the MTN Board of Directors overseeing his father's interest.
